DSE INSTRUCTOR TRAINING in Washington DC at the Tenley Town Sport and Health in Cleveland Park!

Do you want to improve and practice your Ballroom and Latin basics? Do you have a background in dance and are looking for a way to learn Ballroom and Latin dancing? Are you a dance teacher who wants to teach group fitness? Or a group fitness instructor who would like to incorporate the ballroom dances into your classes or add a marketable new class to your repertoire? Then you are what we are looking for in a DSE team member!

We need you if you are one of these:

1. certified group fitness/exercise instructors with a background in dance

2. fit/athletic individuals, who may have little or no dance training, but who have the desire and potential to become outstanding Ballroom and Latin dancers with a focus on the aerobic aspect

3. professional or amateur Ballroom and/or Latin dancers who want to learn a to lead an aerobically oriented fitness class

Our teachers are held to a very high standard; one weekend of intense training will move you to a much higher level. And for some of you who have the desire, you might want to test to see if you can qualify to teach your own DSE classes. Please contact us for more information.

TRAINING: For two intense days, you will be trained in ballroom and Latin dancing, teaching aerobic classes, health and fitness. You will be tested to determine your level of proficiency. All applicants will must work hard and test to advance one or more levels. Depending upon your level of ability to teach DSE by the end of the weekend, you will achieve one of the following (you may also skip levels if your talent and work ethic combined proves that you merit rapid advancement):


Bronze Trainee– entry level skills in the dances and in leading a group

Silver Trainee– some experience in the dances and leading a group

Gold Trainee– intermediate skills in all 10 dances and in leading a group


Provisional Instructor– advanced skills in 10 dances and in group leading; film of teaching and a test required prior to organizing your own class; subbing full classes allowed

Certified Instructor– advanced skills in 10 dances and group leading; may organize a class and teach on their own


Senior Instructor– highly advanced dancer/leader has taught DSE for several years and can train both Provisional and Certified Instructors.

Master Instructor– Highly advanced dancer/leader; may train and test all other instructor levels.


Instructor Training Schedule-

Get a lot of sleep and come fully rested on Saturday morning. Arrive early to park, change clothes, stretch, and be in place. Please be advised if you are late once you will be warned, and if you are late twice you will be disqualified (unless prearranged).

0900 -1015 am– Discussion Session (Important!)

Trainees meet DSE Staff (Senior/Master Instructors), at CG welcome area, sign in, sign agreements protecting DSE copyright, patent, and mailing list, receive guidance on training and testing process, introduce themselves; begin discussion of DSE requirements and high standards of excellence in teaching and dancing.

DSE Master Class! (lunch break follows)

Waltz (Europe/ America) – figures/technique for dancing, DSE choreography

2:00 pm-3:00 pm

Tango (Argentina, Europe)- figures/technique for dancing, DSE choreography

3:00- 4:00 pm

Viennese Waltz (America, Europe)- – figures/technique for dancing, DSE choreography

4:00-5:00 pm

Salsa (Cuba)– figures/ technique for dancing, DSE Choreography

5:00- 6:00 pm

Testing session 1- Trainees lead the class

Please write the check out to “DanceSport Endurance”

You will be required to sign an agreement stating that you will not use DSE routines, material, or products without the proper certification and authorization from DanceSport Endurance LLC. DSE is a Trademarked and Copyrighted product. Also, you will have to agree not to teach a format similar to DSE by a different name. Finally, you will request permission prior to using DSE derived email lists for promoting products other than DSE.


Trainees should wear professional looking aerobic pants/shorts and tops. Bring an extra change of clothes and something warm to put on during breaks and discussions. DSE logo t-shirts will be available for sale on site.


You will need to be able to swivel without hurting your knees, so I highly recommend that you have one of the two following types of shoes for teaching DSE:

1. regular athletic shoes modified at a shoe repair shop to have suede glued to the bottom (ball of foot) for swiveling/twisting/turning

2. dance sneakers (Capezio, Bloch)

3. other dance fitness sneakers (Nike, Ryka, and Skechers have versions)


Both Saturday and Sunday are long and active sessions. There are restaurants, cafes, and grocery stores within close distance, but you are advised to bring drinks and snacks to keep you hydrated and nourished.
